Steve Phillips Biography

Steve is one of the most sought after consultants within the field of leadership and team development. During his 25 year career he has successfully worked across the planet with successful, aspiring, and struggling leaders and teams from Fortune 500 companies and privately held organizations. Steve’s approach to leadership and team development is truly unique and rides the fast track to quantifiable and sustainable results. He utilizes his uncannily keen insight, vast experience base, communicative courage, and cutting edge methodologies to instill not only knowledge, but more importantly, passion to put knowledge gained into daily practice.

Steve often speaks of a leadership crisis within our culture and is passionate about creating leaders, teams, and role models within our organizations and overall culture. One of Steve’s talents is the ability to quickly cut through the barriers which inhibit people from behaving in concert with their stated values. According to Steve, most people know and can articulate the right things to do, they just don’t do them constantly and consistently. One of the themes Steve is frequently asked to speak upon is entitled “Takin’ It Back: How to Stop Settling and Start Leading.”

Steve has worn many hats throughout his career, all of which are utilized in his consulting practices today. His background includes; senior executive positions (key leader in managing and growing three of the planet’s most successful and respected Training & Development/Consulting companies), managing large employee groups, direct sales of millions of dollars of services, stand-up facilitator (one of the most engaging and humorous around), executive coach, and consultant. He is one of those rare individuals who not only can drive results as a leader, but is gifted with the ability to teach, lead, and motivate others to do the same. Steve has successfully performed within the types of positions he consults with. He does not just teach it, he has successfully done it!

Along with his wife, two children, and three dogs, Steve has cruised his own 42’ sailboat for thousands of miles along the North American continent from Canada to Mexico. His passion for sailing and the ocean has led to the design of world class programs utilizing the strongly analogous relationship between sailing and leadership/team development. His approach to learning is strongly experiential and also extends to other teaching analogies as appropriate, such as Ropes Courses. He holds a MA in Communication and Organizational Behavior and was invited to teach within the UC, CSU systems. Steve is also a frequent keynote speaker for several meetings and conferences and devotes time to volunteer work assisting organizations that aid our children, our environment, and our oceans.
